Purpose: NAHUAL is a planed high-resolution near-infrared spectrograph for the GRAN TELESCOPIO CANARIAS (GTC) The first NAHUAL meeting which was held from the June 10-12 2004 at the Parador Nacional de La Gomera. In this meeting the scientific purpose and the requirements of the instrument were discussed. At the second NAHUAL meeting, which was held from June 16-18 at the Parador Nacional de Segovia, the basic outline of design was discussed. Meanwhile the optical design has made a large progress. The aim of this meeting thus is to inform the NAHUAL community about the current state of the instrument, and to discuss the next steps.

How to get to Jena: The city of Jena is a situated in the centre of Germany. The ICE train line from Munich to Berlin is going through the city. The closest airports are Erfurt (45 km), Leipzig (100 km), and Frankfurt/Main (310 km). Since a high-speed ICE link connects Frankfurt/Main with Weimar, which is only 20 km from Jena, and again connected by train, I personally always take flights from Frankfurt/Main. Leipzig is also quite convenient, because it is connected also via an ICE line with Jena. Here is the journey planer of the train . You can also book the ticket for the train on the same web page.

How to get to the hotel Esplanade: EC and ICE- connection Berlin-Munich arriving at the station "Jena-Paradiesbahnhof". The distance from Jena-Paradies to the hotel Esplanade is 700m. You can get a taxi at the train station. If you like to walk, its is only 10 minutes. The Esplanade is at the Zeiss Platz, next to the Goethegalerie (shopping centre), or opposite of the "Volkshaus" and the optical museum (top left corner in the map below).

If you are coming from Frankfurt/Weimar you will arrive at the "Westbahnhof". You can also get a taxi but the distance to the Esplanade is only 500m! After leaving the train-station, just walk down Westbahnhofstrasse. turn left at the next crossing (Ernst Haeckel Platz), follow the Lutherstrasse for another 100m and then continue straight on to the Zeiss Platz (see map below).
